The Committee considered the report of the Director of Built Environment that presented the response of the Cabinet Member – Regeneration and Tourism to the recommendations of the Town Centres Working Group Final Report, as requested by the Cabinet on 26 February 2015.

The report indicated that the Overview and Scrutiny Committee (Regeneration and Environmental Services), at its meeting held on 20 January 2015, received the Final Report of the Employment Development and Development of Local Town Centres and Economies (Town Centres element) Working Group.  It was also indicated that the report was subsequently considereded by the Cabinet on 26 February 2015 and referred to the Cabinet Member – Regeneration and Tourism for his views and comments.

The detailed response from the Cabinet Member in relation to each recommendation was included in the report.

Members raised concern regarding the decline of Town Centres.  The Cabinet Member for Locality Services stated that the shopping experience was changing and that some Town Centres were declining. He also stated that the Council needed to be ready for that and was becoming more creative about what Communities require in those Town Centres.

RESOLVED:

That the response of the Cabinet to the recommendations of the Town Centres Working Group Final Report be received.

Further to Minute No. 66 of the meeting held on 26 February 2015, the Cabinet considered the report of the Director of Built Environment which provided details of the response of the Cabinet Member – Regeneration and Tourism to the recommendations of the Town Centres Working Group Final Report, as requested by the Cabinet.

Decision Made:

That the comments of the Cabinet Member – Regeneration and Tourism on the recommendations of the Town Centres Working Group Final Report, as set out in Paragraph 1.2 of the report be approved and be reported back to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee (Regeneration and Skills).

Reasons for Decision:

To approve the comments and views of the Cabinet Member.
