Further to Minute No. 16 of the meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee (Children’s Services and Safeguarding) held on 27 September 2022, the Cabinet considered the report of the Assistant Director of Children’s Services (Education) which sought approval of the Education Excellence Strategy for Sefton 2022-2027. The report set out how the strategy had been developed, and the proposed next steps in terms of programme development.
Decision Made:
That the Education Excellence Strategy for Sefton 2022-2027 be approved.
Reasons for the Decision:
To ensure that the priorities of the Education Excellence Strategy for Sefton 2022-2027 and wider Education initiatives are aligned to the delivery of Sefton’s 2030 vision, the Sefton Health and Wellbeing Strategy, and the Sefton Children and Young Peoples Plan, and that they are clearly articulated to parents, carers, young people, residents, early years providers, schools, colleges, providers of SEND education, as well as Health providers and other partners across Sefton and its neighbouring boroughs, in addition to the Department for Education.
To ensure that all children and young people receive an education in Sefton which enables them to reach their individual potential, have a clear pathway to further education, employment and engage positively with others in their community.

Report of the Assistant Director Children’s Services (Education)
At its meeting held on 15 March 2022, the Committee asked that a request be made for the Key Decision on the Education Excellence Strategy for Sefton 2021-2025 to be deferred to the Cabinet meeting scheduled for 28 July 2022, to enable this Committee to pre-scrutinise the matter at its meeting scheduled for 5 July 2022, and for the item to be included in the work programme for 2022/23. The item has now been deferred to be considered by the Cabinet at its meeting to be held on 6 October 2022.

Further to Minute No. 43 (4) of 15 March 2022, the Committee considered the report of the Assistant Director Children’s Services (Education) that presented the Education Excellence Strategy for Sefton 2022-2027. The development of the Strategy, together with the proposed next steps in terms of programme development were also set out. The report would also be considered by the Cabinet at its meeting to be held on 6 October 2022.
RESOLVED:
That the Education Excellence Strategy for Sefton 2022-2027 be received and noted.
