Southport Area Committee resolved on 7th December 2016, that in order to assist in addressing the significant and costly problems of unauthorised Gypsy and Traveller encampments in Southport and other parts of the borough the Cabinet be urged to give consideration to the provision of a new transit site for Gypsies and Travellers, including the possibility of utilising central Government funding.
